united we stand, now and forever.
in truth, divided we fall.

House Angelique

S U M M A R Y

"No One Shall Be Greater Than All"

An Ishgardian noble house, the Angeliques are thought of as being amongst the rank of the Valentione, slotted just beneath the High Houses in prestiege. An old family with old money, they are staunch traditionalists who view the reformation effort in a marginally disfavorable light.

F A M I L Y

Count Luciel Bienvenu
Sainte-Croix d'Angelique
non-player character

The current Count is not known for being a man of exceptional kindness or presence in society. A hardened man with high expectations of those that are even tangentially near his family, Luciel is not a well liked figure of the family, nor one often seen outside of his home.

Lord Selaphiel Anthelm
Sévère d'Angelique
player character

The duties and difficulty of being a first born child have weighed heavy upon the brows of Selaphiel since birth. It is a miracle he has not crumbled under the pressure of his father's withering gaze. Many see him as unassuming and some even 'soft,' and forget he is an Angelique at heart.

Ser Ephraim Renaud
de Borderel
player character

Ephraim was not selectively chosen into the family by the same means, and is a distant-distant relation, but one by technicality. He serves as one of the House Knights to the family, and is likened oft to a ray of the purest sunshine. Warm, caring, and accepting, Ephraim sticks out among the more refined of the family.

Lord Yvernaux de
Cœurdelion

Countess Gwendoloena Enit
Blanchefleur de Lac-Sacré
non-player character

The last surviving member of the de Lac-Sacré family of the Coerthan Lowlands, Countess Gwendoloena is also not often seen outside of the Angelique home. Reclusive and in her own way mystical, she can sometimes be heard through the Pillars, singing in the Lowlands style.

Lord Gabriel Victore
Slaine d'Angelique
player character

Notorious and arguably the most well known of the Angelique family ( and to Luciel's disdain, the de facto face of the lineage ), Gabriel is the one most often seen in society. Short tempered and vocal about his opinions and belief, his charisma allows him to attract all the attention in the room.

Lord Azrael
d'Angelique
player character

Ser Rosalie
Bordeleau
player character*

A family member who never was. Cousin to the current direct heirs of the House, Rosalie's mother disowned from the family before the birth of her twins. Rosalie was raised entirely away from society in a cloister of nuns until the moment the nunnery burned down. As of now, she remains unaware of her heritage--but others, less so.

House Angelique

RUMORS

There are no records of Océane’s family, but according to the stories, she and Malach looked stunningly alike. To this day, it’s rumored the family is encouraged to seek out partners with blonde hair and blue eyes, in keeping with the expectations of the family. This practice goes directly against Ishgardian beauty standards in the modern day, where dark hair is fashionable. One has to wonder what the point of this all is.Given that the family line traces directly to one of King Thordan I’s Knight’s Twelve and is meticulously recorded, it can be wondered why the family is not a fifth high house. The story that the family tells is that they chose to move to the Western Highlands and establish their base there, in lieu of conglomerating in the future site of Ishgard. But how much truth is there to the family’s tale?

The second son of the current generation is known for being notorious in society. While a socialite in his own account, there are many whispers about him, about his strange eyes and abnormally sharp teeth. Rumors even say that he bit a man in a street brawl once, and the poor man suffered a fever for weeks. Such strange behavior from a man that the family could claim is utterly unaltered!the current Countess d’Angelique, Lowland born woman that she is, is barely seen out and about in society. She was known to be a sociable woman in her youth, but has been in society less and less as she and her husband aged. One could state that she is like a ghost about the manor, these days. Surely it is just her age and no malicious thing that has caused her retreat from society.Eldest son and heir, Selaphiel d’Angelique is slated to take over the title as Count when Luciel retires fully, but something sets him apart from other first born sons of the Angelique line. Since Count Engel d’Angelique the Pious Flame in 746 SAE, the first born male of the household has always been a pyromancer. Curiously, Selaphiel practices no magic. Will this prolific art of pyromancy die out with him?

House Angelique

HISTORY

House Angelique was founded approximately in 556 of the Sixth Astral Era, not too long after the beginning of the Dragonsong War. It is rumored that the family who became the Angeliques had ties to Gelmorra and the Black Shroud, though they were known to have been among the first migrants to the North as the Hyur began to move into the Shroud. The family claimed to have marched with King Thordan I himself. It is difficult to trace the family back to anywhere before their time in Coerthas, as official recordkeeping begins at the marriage of Malach Angelique the First to a woman named Océane. Océane’s family name is not noted in any official records of the family.
Malach and Océane then settled in the modern-day Coerthas Western Highlands, known now for rolling hills of snow. In ancient times, the land was green, and the family had a sprawling estate. Malach Angelique had a hefty sum paid to him for having been one of the Knights involved in the slaying of Ratatoskr. With that, he purchased the birth of the Brobdingnagian estate, named La Maison des Anges, west of the Coerthan River and south of the future sight of Dusk Vigil. The land was fertile and originally used for farming, producing barley and wheat used in the manufacture of food in Coerthas. It was not until Malach’s son, Zihrun the Argentine was reigning over the family that they found silver on the property. People were hired to go into the cave where the ore was found, and this was the foundation of The Angelique Silver Company as it is known today. The Angelique family has overseen these mines ever since. Hailed as some of the purest and best silver to be had in Coerthas, it was readily used in the construction of buildings, including many churches, infrastructures, and gates throughout the growing land. There is, supposedly, little within Ishgard that has not known the touch of Angelique Silver. Some of the earliest statues of Halone, if the family is to be believed, were crafted of this selfsame silver.Along with the family’s silver, they are known for their unique sighthounds, called Chiens des Anges until the 1200s of the Sixth Astral Era, where they became known more simply as Angelique Chiens, or in contemporary Eorzean, Angelique Hounds. These beasts first came into notoriety when, in approximately 850 of the Sixth Astral Era, the lady of the house, Gabriella the Golden Huntress, was said to have found a small family of mutated faehounds living due north of the estate. They had developed coarse, woolen fur not wholly unlike karakuls, and were smaller in size. She became friends with these bizarre creatures over time, and crossed them with Ishgardian Greyhounds, bringing forth the telltale appearance of the breed that persists into the modern day.Such an impressive origin has lead to House Angelique having renown that could be said to rival the High Houses. It is even stated that had Malach the First not departed to the Western Highlands, House Angelique could have been a fifth high house, though this is again this comes from the mouth of the House itself.Unfortunately. La Maison de Anges was destroyed in the Calamity, forcing the family, headed by Luciel d’Angelique IV and his wife Gwendoloena (née) de Lac-Sacré to move from the estate’s rolling hills to their recently renovated seasonal home in the Pillars, Angelique Manor. The mines, however, remain blessedly in tact.In modernity, the family could arguably be called infamous. They are staunchly traditionalists, resisting the opening of the gates, the ending of the war, and the changes in Ishgard, distrusting of those from outside of their fair Coerthas. They oppose the systemic reformation and refuse to believe that all of the history known to them has been a lie. The future head of house, Selaphiel, serves in the House of Lords as a conservative voice to those that would stalwartly back the reformation.
